But as we examined it more closely, a story from the past began to emerge.<\/p>\n<p>At first, none of us could identify it, and for a moment it seemed like just another forgotten bit of clutter. But after a little research, we realized it was a fid \u2014 a maritime tool that was once essential for sailors.
