On screen, Dean Winchester handles his 1967 Chevy Impala like an absolute pro, drifting through corners and escaping monsters without breaking a sweat. But behind the scenes, Jensen Ackles confessed that driving the iconic car often left him terrified.
While the studio had a few different copies of the Impala for stunts, there was only one “Hero Car”—the pristine, perfect version used for close-up shots where the actors talk. If anything happened to that specific car, filming would completely stop.
🛑 “Don’t Scratch the Legend!”
Jensen revealed that the pressure from the producers was intense. Every time he had to do a fast turn or drive on muddy roads, the crew would hold their breath.
”They would literally look at me with lasers in their eyes before every take,” Ackles laughed in an interview. “It was like, ‘Jensen, we love you, but if you scratch Baby, you’re paying for it.'”
