By Hannah Gearan
The upcoming Prime Video series Countdown has been given a major production update. The upcoming thriller series follows an LAPD officer who needs to join a special and top-secret task force to investigate a suspicious murder. Along the way, he discovers an evil plot that forces him and his team to work together to save their city. Created by Derek Haas, Countdown is set to feature Jensen Ackles in the lead role alongside Eric Dane, Jessica Camacho, Violett Beane, Elliot Knight, and Uli Latukefu.

Speaking with Interview Magazine, series actor Dane provided an update on the filming status of Countdown. The actor revealed that filming on Countdown will start in September. Dane also praised the show’s cast, saying that the Countdown team has gotten “really good actors” who are also “good people.” The actor was grateful for this fact, saying that he has “worked with some scoundrels, and it’s not fun.” Check out the full quote from Dane below:
Yeah, I’m starting a show in September called Countdown for Amazon. It’s a very cool concept. The cast that’s been established so far has been like, “I get where their heads are at.” They’re getting really good actors. And from what I understand, good people. You spend 15 hours on a set with somebody, let’s make sure they’re up to snuff. Because I’ve worked with some scoundrels and it’s not fun, dude. I’m sure you’ve had those experiences, too.

Countdown Is Part Of Jensen Ackles’ TV Career Resurgence
Ackles Has A Busy Schedule Ahead That Includes The Boys Season 5.

The filming update is promising for the Prime Video series, as it indicates that progress is moving along fairly swiftly for Countdown. The series was just announced at the beginning of June of this year, revealing Ackles’ starring status and the basic plot information. Since then, other casting information has been unveiled, including Dane and Camacho as the female lead. With filming beginning in September, Countdown seems to have made quick progress so far, indicating that the show could be arriving in the first half of 2025.

The ending of Supernatural marked a dramatic change in Ackles’ career, but it luckily did not amount to him slowing down.

The show’s swift progress is also great news for Ackles. Though he has been in the industry since he was a teenager, the actor is best known for playing Dean Winchester on the hit CW series Supernatural, which ran from 2005 to 2020. The ending of Supernatural marked a dramatic change in Ackles’ career, but it luckily did not amount to him slowing down. Since then, Ackles’ TV appearances include Big Sky, Tracker, and the Supernatural spinoff series The Winchesters.

Another key role for Ackles is playing Soldier Boy, whom he is set to reprise in The Boys season 5 after the season 4 ending indicated his upcoming return. Like The Boys, Countdown is also a Prime Video show, allowing Ackles to continue developing his relationship with the major streamer. Whether the actor continues more Prime Video shows or not, his new thriller series will hopefully help to re-cement Ackles as a major TV talent.
